Mavcom welcomes Datuk Wong Hee Sieng as new commissioner

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Wong Hee Sieng has been appointed as a commissioner of Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) effective from Aug 16.

He will succeed Datuk Alice Jawan Empaling, who had announced her intention to step down effective June 13 after retiring from her position as the Transport Ministry, Sarawak permanent secretary.

"Datuk Wong was appointed by the Transport Minister, upon consultation with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, under Section 5(1)(c) of the Malaysian Aviation Act 2015," said Mavcom in a statement on Friday (Sept 13).

He has been serving as the Transport Ministry, Sarawak permanent secretary since June 5 and has over thirty years of experience in public administration.

Mavcom said Datuk Wong was also the chairman of the Sarawak Lights and Buoys Board, as well as executive chairman of the Sarawak Road Safety Council.

Mavcom executive chairman Datuk Saripuddin Kassim said his vast experience in public service and leadership in transport-related fields would contribute to the Commission's ongoing efforts to foster a dynamic and competitive aviation landscape.

Saripuddin also expressed his appreciation to Mavcom's chief operating officer, Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, who would be leaving following the expiry of his contract on Sept 14.
