Search mounted for man attacked by croc in Kota Marudu river

KOTA KINABALU: A search for a 35-year-old man has been mounted after he was feared to be attacked by a crocodile at a river in Kota Marudu on Wednesday.

An emergency call came in at 6.07pm reporting that victim Razis Amat was swimming in the river in Kampung Marudu Darat there with his 17-year-old nephew when he was feared to have been mauled by the reptile.

“Initial information reported that the teenager escaped safely during the ordeal while the uncle went missing.

“A team of nine from Kota Marudu fire station were sent to the location and arrived at 6.41pm.

“The search and rescue (SAR) operation through water surface method was activated, using a rescue boat while villagers there assisted with their own boats.

“The operation was postponed at 10.30pm and will continue in the morning (Thursday, Sept 12),” said a Fire and Rescue Department spokesman, adding that information will be updated from time to time.
