Lahad Datu plantation worker missing after croc attack

KOTA KINABALU: A plantation worker has gone missing after he was attacked by a crocodile in Lahad Datu on Thursday (Sept 12).

This is the second crocodile attack within 24 hours in Sabah after another in the northern Kota Marudu district on Wednesday (Sept 11).

In the latest case, Rusdi Tambah, 45, was fishing on the banks of Sungai Matamba, off Jalan Silabukan, when he was attacked.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre assistant chief Riki Mohan Singh Ramday said they were alerted at 10.07am.

An eight-men team was immediately dispatched to the location about 40km away, he added.

"The search and rescue is being carried out on a boat where the man was last seen," Riki added.

In the Kota Marudu incident, Razis Amat, 35, went missing while his 17-year-old nephew escaped in a crocodile attack at Kampung Marudu Darat.

An emergency call came in at 6.07pm on Wednesday reporting that Razis was swimming in the river with his nephew when the attack took place.

Search operations for both victims are ongoing.
