Saifuddin pledges thorough, orderly probe of Myanmar human trafficking ring case


TANAH MERAH: The investigation of a human trafficking case in Myanmar allegedly involving a former deputy minister and her husband will be carried out in an orderly and meticulous manner that takes various aspects into account, says the Home Minister.

Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the police would also summon several other individuals to complete the ongoing investigation paper (IP).

"Based on information I received from the police, an IP has been opened and the individuals involved have been identified, some have even been summoned, and a few others will also be called up.

"It is (part of the) investigation practice that police look at various aspects including tracking down the author of the article (that made the allegations regarding the deputy minister),” he told reporters after officiating the Tanah Merah Baitul Mahabbah here on Wednesday (Sept 4).

The event was also attended by Immigration Department director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh.

Saifuddin Nasution also expressed hope that all parties would cooperate with the police so that the investigation could be completed within a reasonable time.

On Tuesday (Sept 3), the Malaysia International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO) handed over several documents to police to assist in the investigation of a human trafficking case in Myanmar linked to former deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim and her husband.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain reportedly said police were tracking down several writers from neighbouring Indonesia, as well as a "Datuk Seri" allegedly involved in the trafficking, to have their statements taken. – Bernama
