Search on for Beaufort man feared drowned after boat found empty


KOTA KINABALU: A man is feared drowned after he went missing from his boat while crossing a river in Sabah’s southwestern Beaufort district late Wednesday (Aug 21).

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they were alerted that Boy Abdullah, 20, had gone missing at a river at Kampung Bangkalalak.

He said they were informed that the victim had crossed the river to send supplies.

“However, the boat was empty when it was found at 4pm,” he said, adding that the distress call was made to the Beaufort station at 9.24pm.

A fire team was then rushed to the village located some 35km away, said the spokesman.

“A search was conducted along the riverbank around where the victim was reported to have gone missing.

“The operation was postponed at 11.35pm and will be resumed on Thursday (Aug 22) morning,” he said.
