When contacted by Harian Metro, her neighbour, Muhammad Azrol Abdul Ghani, 35, said his family of five is very close to Manggie and they have been neighbours for the past 12 years.
“We visit each other’s homes often, and my children call her ‘grandmother’,” said Muhammad Azrol who lives in Bayan Lepas, Penang.
He said Manggie treats them like they were her own children and grandchildren, and is the first to check on them when any family member falls ill.
“I will never forget when my second child had a fever, ‘grandmother’ came knocking at the door even though it was 3am because she heard my child crying,” he said.
He added that she invites his children to her house almost every day, treating them with roti canai and chapati.
“I was touched when grandmother told us not to move away from here as long as she is alive.
“Thank you, grandmother, for being such a good neighbour. I’ve told my children never to forget your kindness,” he said.
