Youth charged with manslaughter


MELAKA: A youth claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh for causing the death of a fellow trainee at the Henry Gurney School for juvenile offenders.

The plea of Muhammad Daniel Akmal, 21, was recorded before judge Azaraorni Abd Rahman yesterday.

According to the charge sheet, the accused is alleged to have caused the death of Che Ku Rizal Faqimi Che Ku Ridzuan, 19, with the intent to inflict bodily harm that could potentially result in death.

The alleged incident occurred between 4.50pm and 5.50pm at Block Hang Tuah, Henry Gurney School, Telok Mas, in the Melaka Tengah district on January 28, 2020.

The charge under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder carries a maximum jail term of 30 years and a fine upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Rashidah Baharom prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer Shareveen Krishnan.

The accused was denied bail and the court fixed Sept 2 as the next mention date.
