Nenggiri polls: Kelantan Umno Youth chief set to be BN's candidate

PETALING JAYA: Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani is set to be the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Nenggiri by-election, says an Umno Gua Musang source.

"Gua Musang Umno has decided to nominate Kelantan Umno Youth chief (Mohd Azmawi)," the source told The Star on Monday (July 15).

Mohd Azmawi's nomination, however, depends on the final decision of top Umno and Barisan leaders, added the source.

On June 30, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party has shortlisted several candidates for the Nenggiri by-election in Kelantan.

He said these shortlisted candidates would be discussed with Gua Musang Umno chief Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and the Kelantan Umno liaison body before being finalised by the party's political bureau.

Previously, Gua Musang Umno shortlisted three names as candidates, which was decided at the Gua Musang Umno meeting on June 29.

The candidates are Kelantan Umno Youth and Gua Musang Umno Youth chief Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, Gua Musang Umno information chief Amran Arifin and Gua Musang Wanita Umno chief Nor Fadzlete Aryani Mat Rosli.
