Man killed after motorcycle crashes into car


JOHOR BARU: A 20-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle crashed into a vehicle that made a sudden lane change at Jalan Lingkaran Dalam.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at 4.05pm on Saturday (July 6).

"A 40-year-old courier was driving his car from Skudai towards Permas Jaya. Upon arriving at the location, the driver suddenly changed lanes from the left to the right.

"The victim, who works as a machine technician in Singapore, failed to evade the vehicle and crashed into the left side of the car," he said in a statement on Sunday (July 7).

ACP Raub added that the impact caused the victim to be flung to the left side of the road.

"The victim suffered a serious head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The car driver was unharmed; he tested negative for drugs and is currently under remand for four days," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving.

Earlier, a 37-second dashcam video of the incident was uploaded on Facebook, showing how the crash occurred.

At the time of writing, the video has been viewed 1.6 million times, with more than 7,000 shares.
