Ecommerce merchants flourish under govt initiatives

KUALA LUMPUR: Ecommerce entrepreneurial development programmes conducted by several ministries have had positive impact on participants and managed to change their lives significantly, Bernama reported.

Beauty entrepreneur Nilawati Degom, 40, said that joining the Malaysia Digital Economy Corpo-ration (MDEC) programme under the Digital Ministry has helped her to expand her business from her home to her own beauty centre. Before that, she had struggled with sales due to a lack of business management skills.

“When I joined the programme, I learnt how to manage the business and picked up online marketing methods that bear results.

“All this time, I had talent in the beauty line but lacked the skills to market myself.

“Now, sales at my beauty centre have risen. I’m so thankful to have my own beauty centre in Bintulu, Sarawak,” she said.

Seamstress and wedding boutique owner Nur Ummiumaira Azmi, 22, from Kepala Batas, Penang, also expressed gratitude for joining the programme at a young age. She recently opened her second boutique.

“I started my business without any knowledge, armed only with my sewing skills. After joining class after class since 2022, my sewing business has improved and now I’m a wedding boutique owner,” she said.

Songkok entrepreneur Asmidar Liatee Azhar, 36, initially did not focus on social media but pivoted after realising its profit potential.

“After joining the programme, (online and physical) sales went up by 100%. I learnt a lot, including how to be more confident during live sales on TikTok.

“This year, I opened two shops, one in Shah Alam, Selangor, and another back home in Kemaman, Terengganu, thanks to the MDEC ecommerce programme.”
