SEREMBAN: A 32-year-old technician has been sentenced to five years in jail by the Sessions Court here for the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl at a bus stop.
Judge Surita Budin also ordered K. Jason Joshua to undergo counselling while incarcerated and to remain under police supervision for one year after his release.
In her judgment on Wednesday (April 1), Surita emphasised the gravity of the crime, noting that the accused had randomly targeted a minor near a school, an area that should be a safe place for children.
"The court cannot compromise on sexual assault cases, especially those involving children," she stated, adding that such actions undermine the safety of school environments.
The accused was charged with indecent exposure and rubbing his genitals against the victim at a bus stop in front of a school in Port Dickson around 4.15pm on Oct 25, 2023.
He was charged under Section 15(a)(i) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine not exceeding RM20,000 or both upon conviction.
The court had on Nov 24 last year ordered the accused to enter his defence after the prosecution established a prima facie case.
