KOTA KINABALU: Recent victims of the major flood that hit Penampang, Inanam, Tamparuli, Kiulu, Menggatal and their surrounding villages can seek legal advice for free from the Sabah Law Society (SLS).
SLS president Mohamed Nazim Maduarin said victims may go to its office at Menara MAA in the city for legal advice from its secretariat every Saturday from 9am to noon.

“We can advise them on what steps they can take moving forward, their rights and choice of lawyers if they wish to proceed with any legal action,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 3).
He said SLS empathised with the victims considering the scale of the damage and losses sustained.
“SLS is committed to helping victims in their difficult times," he added.
SLS is among many organisations and individuals coming forward to assist flood victims following the devastating floods since Sunday (June 30), which have claimed one life so far.

Homes, vehicles, business premises and infrastructure were damaged by the floods and landslides, which also took the lives of pets and livestock.
Among those who have offered aid so far are Penampang MP Datuk Ewon Benedick, the PGRS Moyog office, Dream Centre Penampang, various Lions Club district chapters, Chilli Padi Karamunsing, WRS Four-Wheel-Drive Club, KDCA Youth Council and Borneo 1st Chicken Rice.

Some offered to provide free house cleaning assistance, electronic device repair services, car cleaning services and waive labour charges for repairing vehicles damaged in the floods.
Social media has been filled with offers of donations to victims, ranging from used clothing to bottled water, mattresses and other daily essentials.
A total of 474 people from 144 families in Penampang, Putatan, Tuaran and Tamparuli were still in several temporary relief centres as of 8am Wednesday.
