‘Federal govt will always support Indian community’

NIBONG TEBAL: The Federal Government will consistently assist the Indian community through various allocations and programmes, says Datuk R. Ramanan.

The Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister said among the allocations channelled to the community were RM100mil through the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra), RM50mil through the Bank Rakyat Indian Entrepreneur Financing-i and RM30mil from the National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund.

Speaking to reporters during a meet-and-greet session with the Indian community at Dewan Orang Ramai in Bandar Tasek Mutiara here yesterday, Ramanan said Indian women were also not left out by the government with a RM50mil allocation under Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia.

The PKR deputy information chief also dismissed the notion that his visit was meant to fish for votes from the Indian community.

“My visit to Sungai Bakap is not to secure Indian votes but to focus on engaging the community to bring more development,” said Ramanan.

He also said the ruling coalition is confident and need not worry about votes from the community as the government has consistently assisted them through various financial programmes.

On the chances of the unity government’s candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin winning the Sungai Bakap by-election, Ramanan said Indian voters will be supportive as long as the candidate is capable and has proven himself worthy to be a good assemblyman.

“As long as the candidate is from a good party, we will always support,” said the Sungai Buloh MP.
