Police detain suspect in domestic violence case after assault video surfaces


PORT DICKSON: A 37-year-old man captured in a clip assaulting his wife at a hotel here after he was allegedly caught cheating on her has been remanded for four days.

Magistrate Uthman Abd Gani signed the order following an application by the police.

The court ordered that the suspect be remanded until June 24 to assist in the probe.

On Thursday (June 20), Port Dickson police chief Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said police have started a domestic violence probe after the suspect was seen in a 31-second clip assaulting the 38-year-old victim.

He said preliminary investigations have revealed that the incident happened around 9.50am on May 24. He said the clip went viral on social media on June 19.

The wife, he said, suffered injuries on her cheeks and body aches.

He said the case is being investigated under section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act and section 323 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing harm.
