Foreigner arrested in Putatan for methamphetamine possession


KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested a foreigner in possession of 57.45g of methamphetamine in Putatan on Thursday evening (June 13).

The 24-year-old suspect was detained by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Penampang District Police Headquarters (IPD) at around 2pm.

Penampang district police chief Superintendent Sammy Newton said that during the inspection, police seized 11 clear plastic packets containing crystalline substances suspected to be methamphetamine.

“The 57.45 g of methamphetamine found in his possession is estimated to be worth RM6,320.

“He also tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine,” Sammy told the media on Friday (June 14).

Sammy added that the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“The case is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same act. The suspect is currently being remanded for further investigation.

“The police remind the public not to get involved in drug abuse and to continue being the eyes and ears of the police by providing information to combat the drug menace,” he said.
