Five-year-old girl dies of suspected abuse, couple remanded


IPOH: A five-year-old girl suspected of having been abused at Taman Malkop died at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun here on Monday (June 10).

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said a report on the incident was received at around 9.45am after the child was brought to the hospital for treatment.

"The victim is believed to be the adopted daughter of a married couple, a 27-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man, who were arrested on Monday," he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 11) morning.

He said the victim had signs of being beaten all over her body with a blunt object.

There were also tears in her private parts and anus, he added.

ACP Abang Zainal said a Magistrate's Court here has issued a six-day remand order until Sunday (June 16) for both suspects to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

"We appeal to anyone with information on this case to contact investigating officer Asst Supt Norazlina Rais Ahmad at 013-6282176, or come forward to the nearest police station," he said. – Bernama
