Sg Bakap polls: EC sets July 6 for polling day, Nomination Day June 22


PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has set July 6 as the polling day for the Sungai Bakap state by-election.

In an announcement on Thursday (June 6), the Commission said that it has fixed June 22 for Nomination Day.

On May 27, Penang State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang submitted notification of the vacant Sungai Bakap state seat to the Election Commission (EC) following the death of assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff.

The notice was submitted to Penang EC director Dr Siti Nazariah Abdul Zalim on the state assembly grounds.

Nor Zamri, 56, died at 1.38pm on May 24 while receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of Hospital Seberang Jaya due to inflammation in the stomach.

The Nibong Tebal PAS chief secured 15,433 votes in the August 2023 state election, defeating Pakatan Harapan's Nurhidayah Che Rose by a 1,563-vote majority.
