Penang water consumers to get new rebate scheme in July

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Water Supply Corporation will not bill Penang domestic consumers for the first 10 cubic meters (10,000 litres) in each bi-monthly domestic water bill from July 1 to Dec 31 this year.

Its chief executive officer, K. Pathmanathan, said this was decided based on instructions from the state executive council.

"Each domestic water consumer saves RM18.60 in the specified 6-month period," he said in the statement on June 6.

He said the temporary measure only applies to domestic water consumption in Penang in the specified period.

He said the "Mesra Keluarga" Rebate Scheme would be expanded to cover households with eight or more people.

"From July 1, the RM20 rebate off domestic water bills will also be granted to qualified large households with a maximum household income of RM5,580 per month," he said.

He said Penang water consumers should contact the 24-Hour Call Centre at 04 255 8 255 for more information.
