Moderation is best weapon, says exco man

JOHOR BARU: Moderation is the key to ensuring there is no repeat of the deadly Ulu Tiram police station attack, says a Johor executive council member.

State health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the tragic incident that happened last Friday should not have occurred in the first place.

Ling also said the state government condemned all forms of violence.

“We have to remain alert... extremism can happen in any religion so it is important that we stay moderate,” he said when attending a Wesak Day celebration at the Fo Guang Shan Hsingmasi Temple in Skudai here yesterday.

Ling, who is also MCA Youth chief, called on Malaysians to spread positivity and kindness to keep the peace and harmony that have been built since the nation’s independence.

Last Friday, a masked intruder ambushed the police station at 2.45am and killed two policemen, leaving another injured.

The 21-year-old attacker was shot dead at the scene.

Seven people were subsequently arrested by the police, including two higher education students.
