Four cops arrested for alleged extortion in Pontian


PONTIAN: Four policemen were arrested for allegedly extorting RM8,700 from a 27-year-old man at Parit Semerah here.

Pontian OCPD Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the incident occurred last Monday (May 13) at 1pm at a house in Taman Saujana.

“The victim lodged a police report on Thursday (May 16) at 9.13pm

“The four suspects are from the Pontian district Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) and were arrested on Friday (May 17).

“All of the suspects are aged 27 to 58,” he said in a statement here on Saturday (May 18).

He added that all suspects are awaiting remand under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“We will refer the case to Bukit Aman for further action,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion.
