MELAKA: Caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh will face PKR Youth deputy treasurer Mohd Yunazri Mustamiri in a straight fight for the Tanjung Bidara state seat in the Melaka election.

Ab Rauf, who is also Melaka Barisan Nasional chairman, is seeking to retain the seat for Barisan, while Mohd Yunazri has been named as Pakatan Harapan’s candidate.

The contest pits the incumbent assemblyman and senior Umno leader against a new face from PKR in one of the state’s closely watched contests.

Pakatan had earlier announced Mohd Yunazri as part of its line-up for the Nov 14 state election. The coalition is contesting 24 of the 28 state seats, with PKR fielding 10 candidates, while DAP and Amanah have seven each.

Tanjung Bidara is among the seats Barisan will be looking to retain as it seeks a fresh mandate in the 16th Melaka state election.

The Election Commission has fixed Nov 10 for early voting and Nov 14 as polling day.
