Security guards with fake IDs nabbed

PUTRAJAYA: Trust should be the most important thing when it comes to hiring security guards, but it also pays to do due diligence.

Three security guards who allegedly used fake identity cards and other people’s identity cards to find work have been arrested.

National Registration Department Investigations and Enforcement deputy director Mohamad Naaim Mat Noor said the three were detained in Kajang around 6pm on Wednesday.

“We monitored the movements of the three suspects, aged between 30 and 34, for about two weeks before they were finally detained. They were working as security guards when they were arrested.

“Based on our investigations, two suspects were using identification cards that did not belong to them.

“One of the suspects was also found to be using a fake identity card,” he said when contacted.

Mohamad Naaim added that further checks revealed the suspects used these documents to apply for work in Malaysia and had been using the ICs for about two years and four months.

“The three suspects are all from the Philippines and are not related to each other.

“Some of the identification documents were borrowed from their friends,” he said.

He said the three suspects have been remanded.

“The suspects could face a maximum of three years in jail or a maximum RM20,000 fine or both if convicted,” he said.
