EC invited to be observer for Thailand, Bangladesh general elections

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia's Election Commission (EC) has received invitations to observe the conduct of general elections in Thailand and Bangladesh taking place this month.

Thailand's general election will be held on Feb 8, while Bangladesh's is scheduled for Feb 12.

EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said their participation in both international elections is in line with its ongoing commitment to strengthening international cooperation networks and enhancing electoral governance through the sharing of experiences and best practices by observing general elections in other countries.

"This programme also reflects the international community's confidence in Malaysia and the EC as a credible election management institution.

"The EC believes that interactions and dialogue with election management bodies of other countries will continue to contribute to efforts to further improve the conduct of elections in Malaysia," he said in a statement today.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun will lead the delegation to Bangladesh, while EC management representatives will attend the exercise in Thailand. – Bernama
