KUCHING: The Sebauh Bridge project in Bintulu is progressing ahead of schedule, with Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah urging its completion before Christmas next year.

The RM74.9mil bridge, spanning 728m across the Kemena River, is slated for completion towards the end of December next year.

It is currently 3.64% ahead of schedule.

Uggah, who visited the project site on Friday (May 17), said he was satisfied with the progress.

However, he called on the contractor Hartanah Construction and Development Sdn Bhd to complete the project ahead of schedule.

"I want it to be completed before Christmas 2025 or even earlier. Then the local community and others can use the bridge for the festive season," he said.

Uggah said he was confident of an earlier completion date based on the contractor's performance so far.

He also noted that Sarawak was expected to experience dry weather in the coming months.

"With no issues of manpower or materials to face, I hope the contractor will capitalise on the weather factor to speed up the project," he added.

The Sebauh Bridge was previously a sick project delayed by three years, leading the state government to terminate the previous contractor.

Hartanah Construction and Development took over at the end of December last year and was given 24 months to deliver the project.

The Bintulu Public Works Department has been tasked to monitor the progress.
