Sandakan trader pleads guilty to registering two men as her sons to obtain ICs


KOTA KINABALU: A Malaysian woman has been jailed 14 months and fined RM2,000 by the Sandakan Magistrate's Court for claiming to be the mother of two men so they could obtain identity cards (MyKad).

Ramla Lampeh, 49, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Nur Faezah Jafry on Tuesday (May 14) after admitting to providing false information that the two undocumented men, Mohammad Firman Rahman, 22, and Mohammad Luqman Rahman, 20, were her sons at the National Registration Department (NRD) branch in Sandakan on May 5.

She was slapped with two charges for offences under Rule 25(1)(b) of the Registration Regulations 1990 that carries maximum three years' jail and a fine of RM20,000, or both.

Magistrate Nur Faezah sentenced her to seven months' jail and a fine of RM2,000 for the first charge or three months' jail for the first charge and another seven months' jail for the second charge. Her sentence was to run concurrently from the date of her arrest on May 5.

The court was told that Ramla, together with Firman and Luqman, were arrested by NRD officials after they provided false details in their MyKad applications.

Firman and Luqman were also charged with providing false information.

Firman was sentenced to five months' jail and a fine of RM1,500 in default one month's jail while Luqman was jailed five months.

Both were ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation on completion of their sentences.
