100kg per week ganja syndicate busted

KUALA LUMPUR: A drug syndicate, which imported up to 100kg of ganja per week from Thailand, was busted with the seizure of cannabis worth almost RM300,000.

Six men and two women were detained following six raids in Cheras.

City police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the raids were conducted between April 18 and 23.

“The locations raided were a courier company office, several condominium units and a house around Cheras and Pandan Indah, following a public tip-off.

“We seized 94.8kg of ganja worth RM293,830. Five of them have been remanded until April 29, while three of them have been released,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Several items were also seized including a mobile phone, a motorcycle, three access cards, RM34,000 in cash, two rabbit food packaging, a pizza cutter and a vacuum sealer, he said.

“We believe the syndicate has been operating for two years. They used luxury condominiums to store drugs,” Comm Rusdi added.
