Huge durian tree falls, obliterates house in Negri

JELEBU: A huge durian tree almost 20m tall fell on a house here completely destroying it.

The over 80-year-old tree flattened a vacant house in Kampung Petaseh Jelatang when it fell during a thunderstorm at 5.30pm on Friday (April 19).

According to Sinar Harian, no casualties were reported as the occupants of the house were away in Senawang, Seremban.

The house owner Norhaslilee Ibrahim, 47, was later informed of the incident by a neighbour.

The family, now temporarily displaced, estimated their losses to be around RM100,000 which include electrical appliances, furniture, a motorcycle and a multipurpose vehicle.

"We're currently residing in a nearby village while awaiting repairs using funds withdrawn from the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) during the previous movement control order (MCO)," said Norhaslilee, who is also a mother of two.

Various parties, including the Civil Defence Force, Works Department and the Jelebu Umno division helped in the clean-up efforts earlier Saturday (April 20).
