Five injured after bridge collapsed in Semporna coastal village

KOTA KINABALU: Five people were injured when a bridge linking to stilt houses at a coastal village in Semporna collapsed on Wednesday.

The full details of the victims' identities are not known as of press time, but two were sent to the hospital earlier by civilians and three who suffered minor injuries were treated by emergency responders on site.

The Fire and Rescue Department initially received the report at 8.03pm about the 200 metre cement bridge adjoining the main mixed structure, which collapsed at Kampung Bangau-Bangau there.

"The Semporna floating station and the district fire station sent their men to the location, assisted by the police.

"The two victims who were rushed to the hospital have since been treated and allowed to return home.

"The three victims treated at the scene did not wish to receive further treatment at the hospital. All victims are in stable condition," said the Department spokesman.
