Two Singaporean bikers killed in accident with lorry on the North-South Expressway

BATU PAHAT: Two Singaporean men were killed and four others injured after being run over by a container lorry at KM111.4 Yong Peng-Pagoh of the North-South Expressway here.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said the police received a report on the incident at 3am on Saturday (March 23).

"The accident is believed to have started when eight Singaporean men were in a motorcycle convoy from Singapore towards Pagoh, Muar, for sahur.

"While on their way, one of the riders experienced a flat tyre and stopped his vehicle at a rest and recreation (R&R) area in Yong Peng.

"The remaining seven then decided to wait for their member in the emergency lane before suddenly, a lorry came and ran them over," he said in a statement here.

He added that the lorry was driven by a 33-year-old man and was with his secondary driver, a 29-year-old man.

"The driver lost control of his vehicle, went into the emergency lane, and crashed into the group.

"The crash has caused two men, both aged 26, to be killed on the spot, while four others suffered serious injuries and are currently being treated at the Sultanah Fatimah Hospital in Muar," he added.

The lorry driver, his partner and one of the convoy riders were unharmed. The driver has also been remanded from March 23 to March 25 to help with the investigation.

"The driver has also been tested negative for drugs and alcohol," he said, adding that the bodies of the deceased have been brought to Batu Pahat Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
