Cops seize RM10.8mil in drugs at ‘childcare centre’

KUALA LUMPUR: A drug syndicate’s ploy to store drugs at a house made to look like a childcare centre was thwarted when police raided the premises.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said police first conducted a raid in Cheras, where they detained a 38-year-old man on Tuesday.

“Further investigation led police to a terrace house in Taman Dagang, Ampang, where 213kg of syabu, 90kg of Erimin 5 pills and 3kg of heroin base were seized.

“The drugs are worth about RM10.8mil,” he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters yesterday.

Comm Allaudeen said that to avoid detection, the syndicate would renovate a house to mimic a childcare centre with many cartoon drawings on its walls.

“The syndicate has been active since late last year and rented the house for RM3,000 a month.

“The detained suspect was hired as a drug transporter and he was paid RM20,000 based on the trips he makes.

“We believe the drugs were transported from northern Peninsular Malaysia before being stored at the house,” he said.
