Puad accuses Malaysian Bar of practising double standards

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi has accused the Malaysian bar of not being impartial after it revealed plans to seek a judicial review of the Pardons Board’s decision to commute the sentence of Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The Umno supreme council member said that there was "unsurprising" that the Bar passed the motion to file a judicial review in its annual general meeting on Saturday (March 16).

Puad added that the, Malaysian Bar had always been "biased and played politics”.

"Until today, they have remained silent on (former attorney general) Tommy Thomas's decision to drop the corruption case against Lim Guan Eng.

“Najib didn’t apply for a reduced sentence – he applied for a full pardon on grounds that he did not receive a fair trial.

"The Federal Territories Minister and the Attorney General (AG) must immediately clear the confusion created by the Malaysian Bar," said Puad in a Facebook post on Sunday (March 17).

On Saturday (March 16), the Malaysian Bar said that it will seek a judicial review to challenge the Pardons Board’s decision to commute Najib's sentence following overwhelming approval from the floor during its annual general meeting (AGM).
