Cops seize drugs worth RM2.57mil in Kuala Kangsar

KUALA KANGSAR: Drugs worth RM2.57mil were discovered in a car here, says the Federal Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director.

Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said that the drugs were seized in an operation on Saturday (March 16) in which a 31-year-old wireman and a 33-year-old factory operator were arrested.

Comm Khaw said when the two got out of the car, a search of the boot found three black bags and added that the first two contained 17 packets of a drug believed to be methamphetamine while the third contained 16 packets of the same drug.

“In total, 51,501g of the drugs brought in from a neighbouring state were seized,” he told a press conference at the Kuala Kangsar Police District headquarters here on Sunday (March 17).

Comm Khaw said that a car worth RM53,000 belonging to the 31-year-old suspect’s father was also seized in the operation.

“Both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine. The 33-year-old suspect has previous drug offences in his criminal record, and both have been remanded until March 23,” he added.

Comm Khaw said the drugs are meant to be distributed in Kuala Kangsar and other parts of Perak.

“The syndicate has been active since December last year, and the total amount of drugs seized can be used by 500,000 addicts,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act for drug trafficking.
