Freak storm damages 10 houses near Taiping

IPOH: About 10 houses in several areas near Taiping were damaged and destroyed following a storm.

A statement issued by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Taiping district control centre stated that the incident happened around 4:30pm on Thursday (March 7).

The spokesperson said the incident occurred following heavy rain and strong winds, which uprooted trees and blew away roofs.

"The areas affected include Kampung Setia in Simpang, Kuala Sepetang Health Clinic’s quarters, Kampung Menteri, Kampung Matang Road and Kampung Dew.

"We received a report on the disaster from the Matang Mukim Penghulu at about 4:30 p.m. before deploying teams to the sites to evaluate the risk factors, monitor the situation, and clear the uprooted trees blocking the pathways," he said.

The spokesperson said no temporary relief centres had been opened so far and that it was currently drizzling in the affected areas.

“Our personnel are still at the sites monitoring the situation," he added.
