Heat rises in Kedah, Stage One alert for eight districts


ALOR SETAR: Eight out of the 12 districts in Kedah have been issued with a Stage One alert after temperatures there hit between 35ºC and 37ºC for three consecutive days.

The eight districts are Pokok Sena, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Pendang, Kota Star and Langkawi.

Pokok Sena is, in fact, at Stage Two with a heatwave as temperatures rose to between 37ºC and 40ºC for the three consecutive days on Tuesday.

With the heat, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has advised Kedahans to reduce outdoor activities.Kedah MetMalaysia director Muhammad Khalil Abd Aziz said outdoor activities should be limited.

“If you have to go out, choose light-coloured clothing, wear a hat or use an umbrella.

“Try to stay indoors and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water,” he said, adding that the department is closely monitoring hotspots in the state.”
