Johor eatery ordered to close for two weeks due to poor hygiene levels

JOHOR BARU: An eatery here has been ordered to close for two weeks due to unsatisfactory hygiene levels.

Johor Health Department director Dr Mohtar Pungut@Ahmad said an inspection was conducted of the eatery at a hypermarket in Bandar Seri Alam last Thursday (Feb 22).

“The Health officials found the premises dirty with unsatisfactory hygiene levels.

Most of the workers also could not show proof that they had undergone a proper food-handling course, which was one of the reasons why its cleanliness had been neglected,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 28).

The department ordered the eatery to be shut for 14 days for the business operator to clean the premises immediately.

Dr Mohtar added that all workers employed there must attend a certified food-handling course.

“All food operators are urged to obey the regulations set under the Food Act 1983, failing which could risk the closure of their premises and a fine,” he added.

Earlier a photo of the closure notice dated Feb 22 until March 7 put up at the outlet went viral on social media.
