The SAR operation was mounted after the teen was reported missing at 5.50pm while he was swimming with four friends, aged eight to 13, with one of the boy's 74-year-old grandfather accompanying them.

A 10-year-old boy in the group was almost swept away by strong currents but rescued by his grandfather.

“Aloysius was confirmed dead at the scene," a spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department said Tuesday (Feb 27).

"His body was handed over to police for further action and the operation ended at 10pm."
