Ministry booths a huge draw at Madani Rakyat event

KUALA SELANGOR: Visitors to the Central Zone Madani Rakyat event here were not only attracted to the booths selling various items such as foodstuff at low prices but also those of various ministries and their agencies providing their respective services.

The three-day programme was held at the Kuala Selangor Sports Complex.

A Bernama survey at the site found staff of ministries and their agencies entertaining requests on information about the services they offer.

Hadila Ibrahim, 39, said that despite being a civil servant, she did not know much about initiatives implemented by the government and decided to come with her husband to the Madani Rakyat programme to get more information.

“My husband had tried to apply for the Rahmah aid provided by the government but failed, so we decided to come here to ask the staff at Sumbangan Rahmah the reason. They were helpful and gave us a clear explanation.

“So far, my family has only received aid from the Selangor government.

“With this kind of programme, I can find out about other aid packages provided by the government,” she said.

A private sector employer, who only wanted to be identified as Fazlina, 47, said she took the opportunity to ask about the child adoption process at the booth of the Social Welfare Department, an agency under the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry.

“Through this programme, I got to ask the department directly on the steps and documents required for the adoption process.

“In addition, my family and I also got to know more about government ministries and agencies and the roles and services they offer, as sometimes we get confused about their functions,” she said.Entrepreneur Mazian Nawawai, 47, who lives in Subang Jaya, was also at the programme.

“I happened to be in the area for business. On entering Kuala Selangor, I saw several banners and advertisements about the Madani Rakyat programme and decided to take a peek.

“The activities featured by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry at its booth attracted me and I used the opportunity to register as a volunteer.

“Who knows? I can help in the event of a flood or other disasters in my area,” she said.

The programme had activities related to agriculture and food security Technical Education and Vocational Training as well as people’s well-being.
