Pregnant woman dies on way to Sibu Hospital

SIBU: A pregnant Indonesian woman from Daro passed away before she could deliver her baby at Sibu Hospital.

Matu Daro OCPD, Dept Supt Neil Beginda said that the case came to light after the mother of the 29-year-old victim lodged a police report on Friday (Feb 23) over her daughter's death.

"Our initial investigations revealed at about 6pm on Thursday (Feb 22), the woman, her husband and an Indonesian driver were on their way from the Jemoreng Palm Oil Pergau in Matu to Sibu Hospital. However, she had passed away while they were near the Muara Lassa Daro ferry jetty," said DSP Neil.

Following that, they sent her body back to the farm. But after some discussion, they decided to take the body to Kuching without informing the police.

"A Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) ambulance that arrived at the Padungan police station later confirmed the deceased had died on Feb 23 at 11.15am," he added.

The body has been taken to the SGH mortuary for a post-mortem.

The case has been classified as sudden death.
