Several roads in Penang to close for CNY clan celebrations


GEORGE TOWN: Several roads in George Town will be closed over the weekend to make way for Chinese New Year clan celebrations, says the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).

The first stage of road closures will be from 7pm on Saturday (Feb 17) to midnight on Sunday (Feb 18).

Roads involved are Lebuh King (Lebuh Light-Lebuh Pasar and Lebuh Pasar-Lebuh Chulia); Lebuh Penang (Lebuh Union-Lebuh Pasar); Lebuh Bishop (Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling-Lebuh Pantai); Lebuh China (Lebuh Queen-Lebuh Pantai) and Lebuh Chulia (Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling-Lebuh King).

Meanwhile, the second stage of road closures will be from 2pm till midnight on Sunday (Feb 18).

Roads involved are Lorong Pitt, Lebuh Ah Quee, Lorong Soo Hong, Lebuh Cannon (Jalan Kampung Kolam-Lebuh Acheh) and Lebuh Armenian.

Organised by Penang Chinese Clan Council with Penang Cultural Inheritors Society as its planning and coordination partner, miao hui (clan gathering) has been celebrated since 1999.
