Cockfighting ring busted in Tawau, nine nabbed


KOTA KINABALU: Nine people have been arrested in a raid on a cockfighting ring in Tawau district.

Six roosters were also seized while RM1,200 believed to be betting money was confiscated, police said.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the seizures and arrests were made during a raid at about 5pm on Sunday (Feb 11) in Batu 5, Jalan Apas.

“We received information about suspected cockfights during an operation dubbed Ops Limau,” he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 12).

He said of the nine people arrested, four were locals while five were foreigners.

The suspects, in their 20s to 50s, were being investigated for gambling, animal welfare and immigration offences, he added.

ACP Jasmin urged anyone with information on crime or suspicious activities in the district to contact Tawau police at 089-772121 or via the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application.
