"We received a distress call at 2.39am about a fire at a home in Kampung Alma estate in Bukit Mertajam.

"Upon arriving at the premises, we found that the house was on fire and caused 80% damage to the property.

"Two of the victims, a man and woman were sent to the hospital before we arrived at the scene and are being treated for burns.

"Of the other two men, one man sustained 20% burns to his body while the other had breathing difficulties.

"All four of them are being treated at the Bukit Mertajam Hospital," the department said in a statement today.

The department said the fire was put out at 3.14am.

"The case has now been handed over to the fire investigation officer to determine the cause," it said.
