30 days to declare all assets

PUTRAJAYA: Businessman Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir has been given 30 days to declare all of his assets in the country or abroad.

Confirming this, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said this was relayed to Mokhzani, who was summoned by graft investigators yesterday.

“He (Mokhzani) was informed of this. He is required to list down his assets, both in the country and abroad, within a month,” he said.

Azam also confirmed that an investigation paper had been opened against Mokhzani.

“The declaration of assets is part of the investigation,” he explained.

He declined to detail out what the investigation entailed.

However, according to reports, the investigation involved a government-linked company.

Azam added that the probe on Mokhzani was not related to MACC’s investigation on his brother Mirzan.

“It is a different case. Not related,” he said.

Mokhzani is the second son of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who had been called by the MACC.

Mokhzani, 63, was summoned to the MACC headquarters at 11am yesterday for investigation under the MACC Act and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorist Financing and Proceeds from Illegal Activities Act.

On Jan 17, Mirzan was called to the MACC headquarters and the businessman was handed over a notice, requiring him to declare all of his assets within 30 days.

The MACC also confirmed it had, since August 2022, begun investigating all entities named in the Pandora Papers as well as the Panama Papers.

In response to this, Dr Mahathir had slammed the MACC for conducting what he claimed was selective prosecution against certain individuals, including his son.
