Woman beaten by ex-husband in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A woman sustained injuries to her jaw and face after her ex-husband allegedly punched her in Tawau.

The suspect was also said to have hit the woman with a vacuum cleaner rod during the incident at Kg Sungai Imam on Wednesday (Jan 17).

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said according to a report lodged by the victim, her ex-husband had gone to her house and accused her of scheming against him with her relative.

“The man went to his ex-wife’s house, and an argument started there. He was said to have started punching her twice under her jaw and beating her following the quarrel,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

The suspect was nabbed on the same day, at around 9.35pm, he said, adding that the vacuum cleaner rod used in the incident was also seized.

ACP Jasmin said the woman suffered from bruises and cuts from the alleged attack and was sent to the hospital for treatment.

He said this case is being investigated for causing hurt under Section 324 and Section 326A of the Penal Code.

“If convicted, the offender can be jailed up to 10 years, fined or caned, or either two out of the three punishments,” he said.
