Teenager to be charged in court for cheating his mother

ALOR GAJAH: A teenager who scammed his 58-year-old mother of RM25,000 is now in hot water.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu said the 15-year-old student and two other suspects will be charged at the Magistrate's Court here on Friday (Jan 19).

He said the Form Three student had concocted the deception with his two friends, aged 29 and 17.

"The three tricked the victim by telling her that Seremban police detained her son for a criminal offence on Nov 27.

"They then told the victim, who is a clinic assistant, that she had to pay to have her son released," he said on Thursday (Jan 18).

Supt Arshad said the victim decided to pay the 29-year-old, who was impersonating a police officer, at Masjid Tanah to release her son.

He said the son returned home on Nov 30 after the amount was handed over to the suspect.

Supt Arshad said the victim then checked with the Seremban police and was told no arrest was made on her son. She then lodged a police report.

He said the ensuing police investigation concluded that there were three accomplices in the case.

"The other teen suspect is a schoolmate of the victim's son," he said.

He added the trio is expected to be charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
