Ex-LHDN chief Sabin Samitah is Kota Kinabalu's new mayor

KOTA KINABALU: Former inland revenue board (LHDN) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah has been appointed the seventh mayor of Kota Kinabalu City.

The 63-year-old Sabin takes over from the city's first woman Mayor, Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip, whose two-year term ended on Jan 1.

Sabin, who hails from Sabah's Ranau district, received his appointment letter from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at his office in Menara Kinabalu on Tuesday (Jan 2).

He is the seventh mayor since the elevation of Kota Kinabalu to City status on Feb 2, 2000.

Sabin served as the LHDN CEO from 2016 to 2021.

Before he was appointed mayor, he served as director-general of the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre in the Prime Minister’s Department.

Present at the brief ceremony were Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir and state secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong.
