Three cops nabbed after cash goes missing in raid

KUALA LUMPUR: Investigations into the disappearance of some RM85,000 in cash during a large-scale raid here has led to the arrest of three policemen.

The cops were detained after a complainant noticed that RM85,000 was missing from his shop following the Dec 21 operation.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said police received a report claiming that the money had been missing from a place in Lebuh Pudu around 12.36am on Dec 22, after a special operation was held there.

“Based on the investigation, we have arrested three policemen aged between 26 and 35,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The suspects have been remanded for four days, starting from Dec 23, to assist in the investigation under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft, he added.

He also urged the public to not speculate on the matter.

On Dec 21, more than 1,000 enforcement personnel were involved in the massive screening operation around Jalan Silang area, a known gathering point for foreigners in the city.

The police, primarily members of the General Operations Force, and other agencies raided four blocks of shoplots and cordoned off the area as they rounded up offenders. The operation was staged to curb illegal activities and screen businesses either owned or manned by foreigners to ensure their operations are legitimate.

A total of 1,101 undocumented foreigners were detained in the massive operation.
