Three cops remanded for suspected theft during raid

KUALA LUMPUR: Three policemen who had been involved in a large-scale screening operation in Jalan Silang on Thursday (Dec 21) have been arrested for stealing from a shop lot in the area.

The three suspects were believed to have walked away with RM85,000 that they had found in one of the premises there.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid confirmed the matter in a statement on Sunday (Dec 24). He said investigations were launched after the complainant filed a police report on Dec 22.

"In our investigations, we have arrested three policemen aged 26 to 35 who we believe have been involved in the reported disappearance of the money. The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code (theft), and all have been remanded for four days, starting Dec 23," he said.

He also urged all to not speculate on the matter and that investigations are ongoing.

More than 1,000 enforcement personnel members conducted a massive screening operation on Jalan Silang here on Dec 21, a known gathering point for foreigners in the city.

The police, primarily General Operations Force personnel, and other agencies raided four blocks of shops and cordoned off the area as they rounded up offenders.

The operation was staged to curb illegal activities and screen businesses owned by or employing foreigners to ensure their operations were legitimate.
