KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly 80kg of methamphetamine and 30kg of ecstasy worth about RM8.3mil were seized during a police raid in Brickfields.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the operation, conducted by the Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) earlier this month, led to the arrest of a 36-year-old foreign man.
Following the arrest, police conducted a follow-up raid on related premises in Kuchai Lama, discovering a cache of drugs intended for local distribution.
“The suspect, together with several other individuals who are still at large, is believed to have been involved in the activity since early this year.
“The premises raided are believed to have been used to store and distribute drugs,” he told a press conference yesterday.
Comm Fadil said the suspect claimed to be a Vietnamese national but held a Canadian passport, adding that police are working to verify his true nationality.
He said the suspect had no previous criminal or drug-related record and had been remanded for 11 days until Aug 20.
“The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or mandatory life imprisonment upon conviction,” he said.
Police also confiscated a Proton X50 valued at RM85,000 under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
Comm Fadil said investigations were ongoing to identify the suppliers, intermediaries and other parties linked to the drug distribution network.
“The supplier is believed to operate outside Kuala Lumpur, and intelligence operations are underway to track down all individuals involved,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur police disposed of various types of drugs worth over RM15mil, which were seized during operations across the capital.
Comm Fadil said the disposal involved 5,022 case exhibits from 4,884 investigation papers for which court proceedings had concluded between 2007 and 2025.
“This disposal is not merely about destroying drugs, it serves to break the chain of abuse, eliminate avenues for leakage and reaffirm that every seizure designated as a case exhibit will be disposed of in a direct, controlled and transparent manner,” he said.
Comm Fadil said the solid drugs disposed of totalled 544kg, comprising methamphetamine, ketamine, heroin, cocaine and cannabis, while liquid drugs exceeded 900 litres, including ketum liquid, Bernama reported.
