PETALING JAYA: Imposing a more stringent punishment against those who fail to report child sexual abuse, such as a mandatory fine or jail time, may backfire, say a child rights group.
CRIB (Child Rights Innovation and Betterment) Foundation co-chairman Srividhya Ganapathy said having a mandatory reporting provision may potentially result in people being reluctant to assist a child in need of care and protection.
