SHAH ALAM: Jealousy was the motive behind a 44-year-old man stabbing his lover near a restaurant at Jalan Bayu Tinggi in Klang.
Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk S. Sasikala Devi said the investigation was still being conducted to ascertain how long the suspect and the 26-year-old victim were in a relationship.
"The suspect and the victim were lovers and the motive behind the attack was jealousy. The suspect is not married and he has no prior criminal record," she told a press conference at the state police headquarters on Wednesday (Dec 20).
The police have recorded the statements of two witnesses to assist with the investigation, she said.
"The investigation is still ongoing and we will investigate further," she added.
It was reported that a local woman died after being stabbed several times in the front and back by a man in broad daylight at Jalan Bayu Tinggi 5, Taman Chi Liung, in Klang on Monday (Dec 18) afternoon.
South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Cha Hoong Fong had said the police received a report at 2.17pm regarding the murder from a woman who reported that the victim was stabbed by a local man who then drove her away in a car.
"Our investigations found that at 1.20pm on Monday, the victim met the suspect at a restaurant around Jalan Bayu Tinggi 6 and after eating, both went to the car park at Jalan Bayu Tinggi 5.
"When they reached a silver Chevrolet car, the suspect stabbed the victim several times in the body with a knife and then placed her in the car before leaving," he said on Tuesday (Dec 19).
"He said the man then drove to his house at Jalan Sungai Nibong 5, Kapar and upon arrival, the suspect attempted to wake the victim."
The 44-year-old suspect then stabbed himself with likely the same knife before police arrived at the location at 4.20pm to arrest him, he added.
"We found the victim in the front passenger seat in an unconscious state and the ambulance that arrived at the scene confirmed that the woman had died. The police forensic unit also found a knife believed to be used by the suspect," he said.
